Our black belt instructors both have more than 20 years' experience and are members of the Australasian Federation of Traditional Karate and Kobudo, and some even have qualifications in education.
SELF-DEFENCE BASED
Our Karate focuses on practical self-defence based techniques that are delivered through a traditional karate program.
TRADITIONAL KARATE
Kalgoorlie Karate Academy draws on the experience of its instructors and brings together elements from traditional karate and kobudo, and teaches the Okinawan style of Shorin-ryu (Matsubayashi-ryu).
What We Offer
We teach traditional Okinawan Shorin-ryu (Matsubayashi-ryu) Karatedo, which was founded in Okinawa, Japan (the birthplace of karate) in 1947 by Osensei Shoshin Nagamine. Our dojo is a member of the Matsubayashi-ryu Karate Association of Australia and is a part of a worldwide network of dojo.
JUNIORS KARATE
Our kids classes focus on developing self-defence, discipline, coordination, focus, and courtesy through the principles of traditional karate.
SENIOR KARATE
Our adults karate classes focus on practical, realistic self-defence based training delivered through a traditional karate environment.
KOBUDO
Our kobudo (weapons) classes offer the students to opportunity expand their knowledge to a different area of the martial arts.

SENSEI MATT & SUSAN EDWARDS
HEAD INSTRUCTORS & CO-FOUNDERS
Sensei Matt and Sensei Susan both have over 20 years' experience in karate, having trained not only in traditional karate but other martial arts, too. Sensei Matt is known for bringing his vast experience together, coupled with his passion for teaching and developing others, to deliver fantastic classes. Sensei Susan adds extraordinary value to classes as a qualified early childhood educator and brings these professional skills to the dojo when teaching both adults and children.
